Decorize.com, the first home furnishings company in America to enable
both large and small retailers to source direct from the Far East, has announced the acquisition
of GuildMaster, Inc., a leading home accents manufacturer. The acquisition is part of the
Decorize strategy of identifying and buying two home accent companies that benefit from the
Decorize.com business model. According to Jon Baker, Decorize.com CEO, this is the first of
two acquisitions the company will be making. "We believe that our business model can be utilized
with the acquired companies to add value so their retail customer base benefits from better
pricing and product synergy," Baker said.
He went on to say, "Our goal is to acquire two companies that are strategic fit with our long
term vision and then build infrastructure . . . this is not a roll up. Our focus is on creating
one quality, customer focused organization with multiple brands benefiting from our business
concept. If we continue to execute, growth will take care of itself. We don't want to be
bigger just to be big, our focus is to be a company that works well for our customers."
Jim Parsons, founder of GuildMaster added that, "It makes sense to bring the two companies
together. We believe we can each benefit from shared resources, plus the approach that
Decorize.com is taking is unique in this industry. Using some of their tools, we can offer
better pricing for our customers." Parsons is on the board of Decorize.com and was involved in
the early stages of the company's development.
GuildMaster has been in business 18 years and offers a full line of premium home accents and
furniture. Decorize.com was formed mid-year 2000. Through a series of logistics models and
using technology, the company allows small retailers to source on-line or through company sales
representatives with freight inclusive prices at an average savings of 30% below wholesale.
It is the first time ever that a small retailer can source from the Far East on an opening
order of $1,000 and Decorize.com assume the freight risk and guarantees the quality.
For larger retailers, the company offers a 7-day delivery model directly from the Far East
for their web based customer, access to thousands of sku's, pricing that can be up to 70%
below normal wholesale, and free back up inventory to reduce retailer risk on larger orders.
